Here’s

– impendence based platelet counts can be confused by red cell fragments where
optical passed platelet counts can be more reliable.
I’ve
never understood why analysers don’t switch from an impedence method to an optical
one in cases of low platelets, or where red cell fragments are detected…
Perhaps
the new ones do. I shall find out soon.
